MMA AWARDED CAPE LEEUWIN HYDROGRAPHIC SURVEY SCOPE

MMA News

MMA is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a further hydrographic survey scope by the Department of Defence under the HydroScheme Industry Partnership Program (HIPP).

The survey is for the Cape Leeuwin area, located off the coast of Western Australia, extending from Margaret River to Flinders Bay and covering an area of approximately 421 nautical square miles. The work is expected to commence in late 2022 and continue into early 2023.

MMA will use its own vessel, the Mermaid Searcher, to conduct the survey. The Mermaid Searcher has been selected to provide a stable and safe platform in the challenging sea conditions of the Southern Ocean.

As well as mobilising a specialised crew of surveyors for the project, MMA will leverage its partnership with Curtin University to provide hands-on work experience to Australia’s next generation of surveyors.

With the region having last been surveyed in the 1970s, this survey will increase confidence in the location and extent of navigational hazards and will assist mariners in maintaining safety of navigation, while also protecting the surrounding marine environment.

MMA looks forward to continuing our strong working relationship with the Department of Defence, as well as providing ongoing investment in the development of Australia’s hydrographic industry.
